Tonight I will stay in a castle.

Alberobello, a bit of a tongue twister, and a name that may be unknown to you, but I'm sure you will recognise the photos of the homes.

Along with about 5000 tour groups, and 3.6 million tourists, we also took some time to explore this small town that has basically converted to an adult Disneyland.

The Truli buildings are hundreds of years old and they say the roof was built without mortar so when the tax collector was in the area, residents would whip off the roof and then the collector couldn't charge any taxes.

Most of them in the town are now in use for souvenir shops, restaurants and guest houses. In a way, it is a shame, but at least the buildings are being kept to a good standard by this newfound income.

We walked the streets for many hours and in between had a cool drink and some lunch also.

We popped in and out of many shops and were also given a very detailed overview of how some linen is still made by hand. There are three main designs that can be chosen, and once selected can't be changed. The family must stay with that design selection for generations. The three designs are, Olive, Grape or Wheat. We were very impressed with these designs and the durability of the table cloths, to the extent were in the market to purchase one. Until we were told the price was 320Euro!!!!  (about $520AUD).  We both at this point thanked the man gracefully and made our exit.

After lunch, it was back on the road to Palo Del Colle about 15 Km outside of Bari.  We selected this town to get away from the hustle and bustle of Bari and will be based here for the next 6 nights. We think it will be a great place to explore the hills and the coast, along with the city of Bari and the small towns in between.

Our accommodation used to be a castle in the centre of the town.

The owner is very friendly and has also made us a reservation in a local restaurant.... and it was one of the best meals we have had and only 50Euro including wine.  Buona Notte. (Good Night).
