Assisi

Today we toured to the hilltop town of Assisi, this time with Rosalinda at the wheel of the Agriturismo La Maesta wagon. Assisi is just over one hour south east into the Umbria region. The drive to Assisi was quite pleasant, Rosalinda played Italian classical opera and we gazed over the rolling hills.
Once in the Umbria region we were able to see the difference of the terrain, hills and buildings. The stones in the buildings have a pink tone to them, where as in Tuscany they don't.On arrival we first stopped for a brief look at San Damiano the first monestary of the Order of Saint Claire, and also reported as the place where St Francis had saw christ's statue come to life and say "Francis, don't you see my house is crumbling apart? Go, then, and restore it!". (maybe just a little too much wine for St Francis)

Unfortunately we were unable to take photos inside (as with most places like this, i think it is the churches way of ensuring you will buy postcards of the interior!)After paying one Euro each to use the monestarys facilities, we were back on the bus and receiving instructions from Rosalinda on how to navigate our way through the town of Assisi. One thing we first noticed about the town was how much quieter it was compared to yesterday's towns. This may be just because our fans didn't know we were going to be here, or it was just a weekday.Assisi was a very interesting town, and to me appeared to feel a little more squeezed on top of the hill. We had a lovely lunch in a wine bar, two sandwiches, two glasses of wine, one litre of water all for 15 Euro. We were happy with that.

After having lunch it was time to continue to the St Francis Basillica, and again we were forced to purchase postcards of inside if we wanted to have ever lasting memories, so for now here are our photos from outside.

Finally I would like to mention one of the best views I have ever seen in a toilet. This time we only needed to pay 60 cents. (Also thanks to Dwight for telling me about this!)
