Have a chat and take the advice

After our first night under the canvas for a while, it was a welcome sight to see the Murray River out the front flap.  A leisurely start was had as some shake pancakes were cooked on the stove. We then had some conversation with some other campers, they were from the Barossa Valley area and often come up to Renmark to have a break from the chores of running a small hobby vineyard.
We also received a hot tip from these travelers about a place some 20 clicks out of town.

The Riverbend Caravan Park is a great place to stay whilst
in Renmark and we can certainly vouch for the clean facilities and great amenities. The showers had a good head of water and were nice and hot too.

Our first place for exploration this morning was Almond Co. Australia the factory outlet where we were able to sample some almonds and make a purchase. Apparently, the facility produces up to 100 different almond products!

Next stop was to be the Olivewood homestead, but due to some unforeseen operational issues, it was closed for the day. So we then thought it best to head for 23rd Street Distillery where we were presented with a lovely and very informative 30 min tour and tasting of Whiskey, Gin, Vodka and Brandy!  Yes, officer, I have been drinking, but each sample was only 10ml.

We can highly recommend the visit to the distillery and doing the tour.  The tour presents the history of previous businesses who used the site and the history of the building dating back around 100 years.
This current form of the distillery is celebrating its 2nd birthday this month and we believe it will have many more as it continues to become an icon of the town.

Next stop was Renmark Patisserie for a quiet lunch where we may have had a custard tart that is a rival to the famous St Leonards Custard tart in Victoria.

After lunch we headed to the Woolshed Brewery in Murtho, this was the recommendation from a fellow camper this morning. It is on a sealed road that heads north from the town of Pingara

THe brewery is in an old woolshed and still has the sheering area, the oily sheep smell, and a bar.  We selected to share a tasting paddle with the following, Firehouse Coffee Stout, Summer Ale, Utopia Rude Ruby and Utopia Hard Lemonade.

The location was amazing up high overlooking the slightly green Murray River where we also enjoyed playing with the four dogs.  One was named Lilly, she wouldn't stop bringing back the stick and Katie tried her best to throw it far enough for her to get a good run. The next dog was Molly who sat behind our chairs and loved a pat. There were two other dogs who weren't as much interested in people and we didn't get their names, however, we did manage to read the embroidered collar on the larger of the two which said: Don't Feed Me.

So, for those who are following along, Katie didn't manage to add to the count today, we are still sitting at 8.

On our way back from the Woolshed we stopped at the Heading Cliffs Lookout and saw a vista that we have seen printed on postcards and visitor guides and now on our blog.

This afternoon we will be doing some pre-packing as it is a long day in the car tomorrow, from here it is about 7 hours to Roxby Downs.
