Port Arthur

As we had both been to Port Arthur in the past, we knew what were were in for but still wanted to go back to see just a little more. The haunting remains of the
penitentiary, the vast open areas and the remaining homes that have survived throughout the years.

The other item we both hadn't seen but weren't going to miss, was the cruise and tour of Isle of the Dead.

The operators of the site have a dual hull catamaran that took us out onto the harbour for a cruise including commentary and then allowed us to disembark for our tour of the island.

Our guide was a wealth of information and provided a very detailed account of the happenings on the island.  We learn't convicts went originally allowed tombstones of any kind and how free people were buried on the higher side of the island, with their tombstones and their backs to the penitentiary.

After the tour we finished our cruise with a Tasmanian Scallop Pie, well I tried one and finished it, but Katie stuck to the lamington and coffee.  The pie was just like a curry pie, but without chicken or beef.  It was very strong, fairly tasty, but not something I would try again.

The afternoon was spent looking around the site and then returning back to Hobart.

We did stop off at a museum on the way.  As it was only $3 entry we weren't disappointed, but the photos explain themselves.
