A day of holiness

Waking up in a foreign place is always a bit surreal. We both slept like logs and were ready for a full day at The Vatican. We started the day with our first Italian Cappuccino and
caught a taxi to the meeting point for our day tour. As all roads lead to Rome it may have something to do with the traffic and crazy drivers

Being inside The Vatican is an amazing experience. While we're both by no means religious, there is something special about being in the home of the Pope. St Peter's Basilica and The Sistine Chapel amazed us with both architecture and beauty.

The afternoon tour was spent touring other major Basilica's in Rome. While it was very informative and the basilica's amazing to look at - I'm pretty sure I'll never get Shannon in another church again! Our tour guide told us how lucky we were because it was so quiet and not many people around in all the places we visited. What! It was madness! If that was quiet I'd hate to see what it's like in the thick of Summer. I also wonder why they didn't pay the extra on construction and get air conditioning.

Speaking of Summer...we've been thrown right back in to days of high 20's which is hard to get used to. We've even had the air conditioner on in our room. Our B&B is in such a good spot - I don't think you could get better. It's literally a stone's throw away from the Trevi Fountain. We are tucked away in a little narrow street that is lined with restaurants - also handy! We had quite a nice meal last night and Shannon was introduced to Peroni beer and I discovered you can't order just a glass of wine but have to order a minimum half bottle. Who am I to complain?! When in Rome..

It should also be noted shorts can be warn into the Vatican, Just make sure you have them pulled down enough to cover the knees!
