Rest day

Even on holiday, we like to take a slower day. Usually unplanned, we allow our bodies to tell us to rest.

This morning we woke later than normal and headed into the main piazza, Piazza Maggiore. This piazza is always busy, with people dashing from one side to the other, used as a meeting place waiting for others or those crossing the square like we did to enter Basilica di San Petronio, a church with 22 chapels!

The morning was foggy in Bologna city but didn't stop us and about 40 others from catching the San Luca Express, a little train like on the Geelong Waterfront, but goes much faster and takes us a few kilometres from the city to Sanctuary of the Madonna di San Luca.

From here, the fog had dissipated slightly. We took in the view and also entered the sanctuary. Fortunately, we were able to see the end of mass and then walk throughout the building. It is an amazing place with a history going back hundreds of years before the coast of Australia was even discovered by Europeans.

Lunch was a simple Pizza, and then it was back down to the city on the San Lucca Express.

The afternoon was spent recharging and relaxing, and then off to another Irish pub for some Beer and Wine. Katie also had a Celtic Aperol Spritz, with the Prosecco replaced by Apple CIder, apparently quite tasty.

Dinner tonight, pub food, Hamburger, and chips.

Tomorrow will be a day trip on the Frecciarossa high-speed train.
