Catching a quiet village and great friends

As we found Hahndorf very busy yesterday afternoon, and quite reminiscent of a Disneyland Theme Park, Katie and I were back down there around nine am before most of the shops opened.  The theory was we would get to look along the main street and get a real feel for what it is like out of School Holidays and the Labour Day long weekend.

This proved to be a good idea and for about one hour we felt like we were in a
small town.

There were a few standout shops, the leather shop that was more like a cave that seemed to never end and at the back was a rabbit enclosure.

Shop Slogan - "We only use leather from vegetarian cows".

These rabbits were massive, that bowl is one you would normally put in front of a very large dog!
A candle shop that made just about every fragrance you could imagine, the shop had all the standard flavours but some worth mentioning were the gingerbread, apple strudel, jam doughnut, just amazing.

Our biggest treat was the German bakery on Pine St, here the Bretzels were as good as Germany and the beesting slice Katie had was the best, ever.

What also made the place great, was the man in the shop. He was obviously run off his feet with us tourists, and some (city slickers) are quite rude.  For instance, one lady wanted to know if the eggs on toast were, one or two slices of bread, what type and if there were one or two eggs.  This may not sound like much but her mannerisms and attitude were appalling. With us being next in line we made the guys day, making sure nothing was a problem, and letting him know we were happy to wait while (in his words) he got on the phone to 'Call in reinforcements'.

Then as we waited outside, he would pass our table with items for other customers and the friendly banter continued.  It was a great place and we might just go back there tomorrow for a Full Breakfast. Just hope our man is there.

From here we continued to Beerenberg Farm and got some jams, spreads and the like. I was amazed at how many variations this little warehouse shop could hold.

It was then time to head over to McLaren Vale and have lunch with Di and Lou; a couple we met in 2016 when touring Italy.

Di booked us a table at Woodstock and we had a fabulous meal and even better time.

Lou, the wombat ;-)
Following up was a wine tasting and then another one. Wow, there are a lot of wineries here!  Our final stop was off to the d'Arenberg Cube which we had seen on the like of MasterChef.

It was a great day and was had with great company, thanks Di and Lou.
